Sketchbook

I covered my original front cover because it was High School Musical... not cool.I made the cover by cutting to A5 size and covering it in floral papers. The rest of the sketchbook was put together using coptic stitch. I learnt how to make my own sketchbook, alot of work but so worth it at the end.

Woo! That there is Coptic Stitch in action.

Page unos. A picture of worn out shoes with lyrics from Let Me Take You There by Plain White T's. This used to be my favouritest song ever... until I got bored of it. anyways... I thought it went well with the shoes. I took one of my pairs of shoes moving them in different angles to produce drawings.

Okay, so page 2 is SLIGHTLY rude. But it's my overheard conversation and it did make my day a hell of a lot better so I just had to use it. Please ignore the naughty words.:) I used watercolours and a very thin and small paintbrush for the images. On page 3 I made a silhouette family tree using black card and "drawing with scissors". It's actually a lot harder than it looks.

Hello big shiny silver thing. On our left we have Jessica Ennis with a nice pattern on her face. She was an inspiration to most people in Britain this year so why not use her face to be drawn upon? I didn't want to make it tedius so i changed the pattern as much as i possibley could. I used black fine liners. On the right we have a package of blackberry apple tea which is my favey and i created this with biros.

Big shiny thing returns. This is 2 pages of gesture / contour line drawings of my little cat, Phil, using biro. Oh and all that writing in the background is the poem "The Owl and The Pussycat" which i thought went wonderfully with my little kittycat. This was actually the hardest task to do because he kept moving so much!

At the top is a contour image of my bedroom window with lyrics from a song from Moulin Rouge and the bottom page is a picture of my textiles room (sorry its not graphics sir..) which could be better so i may redraw it at some point.

My Kind of Love by Emeli Sande is my favourite song at the moment so I wrote it in loads of different typefaces, I love this song and I love the video to it - it had to be done.

On the left is a page of lots of different cartoon faces and on the right is a page of geometric shapes and patterns.
On the left is just an experimentation of trying to draw holding hands, its harder than it looks :( and on the right is a profile of Effy from skins.
On the left is a random guy I saw and I thought I would draw him to go with my profile little cartoon people.
The right side has some slightly insane bugs that managed to get into a passport booth, they all turn mad at the end. I'm thinking its a bit of a mid-life crisis. poor moth.

Zine boy.

I have made a page of different sized fishies with different patterns for there scales. This page shows that everyone is different, including fish. I used a biro to create light and dark tones within the patterns.

Humour makes the world go round, and thats why i used it on my first page. If you were going to look at a anything then you'd want it to appeal to you straight away otherwise you wouldn't carry on reading.. so that's why i've used mr.moustachio at the beginning. Then there's a lovely little song by Florence Welch which is one of my absolute faves. So it definately had to be included.

I would love to travel all over the world, and I think that everyone else should as well. The more you see then the more you know. The next page is very personal to me because it always remind me of my boyfriend. There's always a cup of tea going down when we're around. I kept my pages simple so you're not overwhelmed with rubbish.
For this page I just used an image of my hand and arm that day. Keeping it simple. I love wearing loads of bracelets cos' each one reminds me of someone different. And the bird cage represents the necklace I had on that day. Inspiration at it's best woo!
My last page :( ono! I don't know where i got the idea to create this page from.. it's just a lot of organised junk.

Manual

This is my whole manual completed using hand drawn images in ink and photoshop for the rest of it. I learnt how to use photoshop by doing this task and also how to make an accordian book. I used a template on photoshop and made each page one at a time.

Tools and Materials. I used the lasso tool to make an untidy bubble around the image to look as if you've scuffily watercoloured by hand and i used the paintbrush to colour the titles in.

I used the lasso tool to bring out the text and used the paint brush to paint the other objects. The titles were found using dafont.com

Step three and four, I wrote my instructions in detail because people need to understand what they're making.

Step five and six. I used typewriter font and everythings fine because I liked the cartoonyness of the lettering.

Step seven and eight. The instructions aren't the best on these ones, it doesn't really say what you need to do with the stitching.

The colours on the last page unable you to see the writing which isn't so great but it looks could printed out so i blame my camera :)

Making the Manual

This is a picture of my manual being made in photoshop, woo! I used Everything's Fine for the titles and Typewriter for the writing. I coloured the titles using paintbrush. I created the images by drawing them in pencil, inking and then scanned them into the computer.
This my first pages finished with a lot of purple :) I coloured the objects using the lasso so it created a water coloured handmade kinda thing.
This is my second page of work done exactly the same as the first. I needed to make more scans for this page.

And thats everything completed. Then I printed it and folded it into place. We used black ink so that it would look handmade and so it came up better on the scanner.

These are some of my inked images that i scanned into the computer. I used the magic wand to then take away the background which enabled me to move and colour them.

John Porcellino Study Case

So impressed with my cute little sloth, LOOK AT HIM. ahhdhoefjfifbb so cute, anywho.. the front cover is in the style of John Porcellino. My image represents the sparbridge bus stop where my first story takes place. I spent a lot of time there when I was in school, waiting for the bus to go to Shrewsbury... alot of stories came from this place.. there's the town hall behind it where I lied to get into a 15 year old movie :O oh the shame, and the carpark where I played with my mates when I was like 6, getting my friend Alex told off for taking me to such "dangerous places". And.. yeah, generally a simple good place.

On the left is my 28 favourite things and stuff thats going on at the moment, quite like in the style of Porcellino however, his just involves songs that I've never heard of.. so me being simple and stuff I changed it so I knew what I was talking about.. woooo I have an obbsession for my cat, so he's included alot too :D The page on the right there is my story about nuns. I found out that my friends cat actually got knicked by nuns the other day, her dad told her that he had seen their cat at the nunnery and it hasn't been back since. Maybe nuns are secretly cats, why not.

Okay, so this is my cat calls and my small guide to mini comis, small press, and fanzines. Cat calls I asked two of my very best friends to tell me a story that had happened to them lately.. and thats what they came up with. On the right we have DR. MOO and his quide to lovely nice things in order to obtain Laura's obbsession with One Direction - I do no have a friend called Laura.
Aaaaaaaaaaw this is the story about me and my boyfriend, Danny, like when we first got together. This is one of my favourite memories ever... I don't know whether this story does it justice enough but.. so much love goes out to this story :D The simple line drawings are in the style of Porcellino.
This page shows my small bit of research on Mr. John Porcellino himself using capital letters like he uses when writing. I noticed when reading through his work that his words are mixed up of capital letters and lower case, which is actually incredibley hard to do.
wooooooo my envelope of cats :)

Reading John Porcellino

Angus is reading my John Porcellino style comic, woo!

Cut 'n' Paste Poetry

Photoshop - My front cover made by making small white boxes and I rubbed away the edges with the rubber tool.. to give that handmade paper look... I made some little black bars with the marquee tool and rubbed away to look like they have been cut out by hand and scanned in. The writing is wrote using type writer font. And... the background is a hand drawn village found on google with a colour overlay on it.
I cut out random phrases and words from a national geographic magazine.. so alot of them were animal based which were quite effective sometimes. So.. the words have all been cut by hand and then the cut paper was made using white boxes with the rubber tool. then on the background I used a picture of paradiseeeee aw it looks so warm and lovely. And then I used a rubber tool around the edge.
This is my tramp sleeping on the monsters belly, haha I actually find this quite cute. Poor little trampy sleeping on a orange Barney. Then I used a Jungle picture on the background using the rubber tool around the edges.
This is my poem about the cheeky tramp sleeping on the dinosaur, it's my longest poem.

This is the rest of my hand made poems... I like the pigeon one the best.. and the rat one the least. I hate rats.. horrible things. blurgh.
