Magazine Analysis
Conclusion
Layout - Elle's layout is bare, simple and ordered whereas Look's layout is loud, haphazard and vibrant. This is because it is aimed at different target audiences. The covers are reasonabley the same when using one main model in the middle of the cover which is linked to one main article.
White Space - Elle's cover and pages use alot of white space to let the eye breathe, whereas Look uses hardly any within it's content.
Typography - Elle uses little serif and alot of sans serif, no graphic ornamentation whereas Look uses alot of serif and little sans serif and alot of graphic ornamentation.
Hierarchy - Elle uses Heirarchy on the main article of the magazine whereas Look doesn't really use much change in size apart from in their double page spreads.
Photography - Elle's photography is very professionally done, great light used, high fashion, exspensive looking, whereas as Look uses paparazzi, catwalk and red carpet photography which is what appeals to the target audience because they inspire to be like the celebrities.
Colour Scheme - Elle's colour scheme is very pale, pastel colours, blacks/whites and a vibrant colour to contrast with the others, whereas Look's colours are very vibrant, and messy.
Ornamentation - None in Elle, whereas there's loads used in Look; boxes, font, stamps.
Institutional Information - Both magazines include websites and barcodes.
Photo package - Both magazines have a main dominant model in the centre but look has some smaller images reasonabley the same size.

Ali, the main bulk of this analysis is really excellent. Lots of relevant detail and a great use of graphics terminology - i was very impressed reading it :)
ReplyDeleteOne this to make it top marks though... your conclusion doesn't read as a summing up of the main findings. it's more like a watered down version of the previous writing. Think of 4 or 5 things that stood out when you were comparing the mags and write abou these. Get that top A mark.
